*He was the first man to go in to space.

* He spent 1 hour, 48 minutes in space.

* He was born on the 9 March 1934.

* He died on the 27 March 1968, aged 34.

*After the flight, Gagarin became a worldwide celebrity

* One quote he said was: “The Earth is blue. How wonderful. It is amazing.”

*He tried to be a fighter pilot.

* During his flight, Gagarin famously whistled the tune "The Motherland Hears.
